This Kickstarter campaign will kick-start the book-to-film project, both to bring Penrose's remarkable journey to life - starting from his traumatic childhood, then continuing through his life during the apartheid era in South Africa, up to the decades he spent rediscovering his identity and purpose.

I feel compelled to illuminate Penrose's profound humanity and quiet perseverance in the face of unimaginable adversity. His story mirrors the experiences of millions still fighting for equality in South Africa and, indeed, around the world. Penrose defied the odds with an unassailable hope and dignity.

With your support, we can give Penrose the enduring legacy he deserves while creating understanding and uplifting voices that too often go unheard. This book and film will honour an ordinary man's extraordinary spirit. I imagine him beaming with quiet appreciation at the chance to uplift others.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The novel will be published on my budget, but part of the funds raised will go towards a global outreach campaign with both advertising and retaining a PR company to ensure Penrose's story reaches every corner of the globe in every newspaper and media outlet possible. That takes some doing (!), so whatever we raise will be spread between the novel's global outreach campaign and the film project.

Crowdfunding Will Kickstart The Film

We have various avenues of film finance available to us, and in order to achieve the best funding deals, we need to have a “strong package” for the film. This means engaging a profiled director suited to the genre and style of the film and attaching a star cast for our lead characters.

1. For Penrose, we are reaching out to Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), David Washington (Tenet), or Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders).  Big names for a small-in-stature, giant-in-spirit man like Penrose!

2. For Miss Ad, we would be delighted to attach Olivia Williams (Sixth Sense), Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener) or Ashley Judd (Double Jeopardy).

Engaging a respected casting director will ensure that we access and engage the right high-flier talent for our lead roles of Penrose and the formidable Miss Ad. A chunk of the funds raised will allow us to bring on a top-notch casting pro to start attaching big names that can rocket Penrose's incredible story onto the big screen. As you may know, major film financing tends to only roll in once you have A-list celebs signed on, ready to draw audiences in!

Once we have bankable stars inked to the project (I'm on the edge of my seat waiting!), then Chantelle and Nigel can wave around those signed contracts to unlock the serious film funding we need from industry backers. Then it’s lights, camera, action as we boot this production into high gear!

I don’t want a producer optioning the script and turning the characters into people they weren't. Especially the main characters in the story, who were members of my family and thus very important to me!
